Overview
Chris Foy is a director, cinematographer, and athlete whose work lives in motion—so his site had to feel like film. I designed his web presence into a cinematic, lightweight experience: a dark, off-black canvas with sand-toned type, a centered name tag, and a sticky, split navigation that quietly stays out of frame while the work takes center stage. The hero “bleed” typography (difference blend) for CHRIS FOY and the subline rides over video and images, then fades as you enter the third section—keeping the opener impactful without lingering. Bottom-corner labels (“BASED IN NYC” / “WORKING GLOBALLY”) pin to the viewport and smartly hide on mobile menu open.
Every project page uses standardized Vimeo embeds (autoplay, loop, muted) with clean aspect ratios and zero rounded corners, so motion feels immediate and intentional. The Archives gets a looser, hand-written headline—styled via a custom font overlay—framing a masonry collage of process moments. Under the hood, custom CSS/JS handles responsive type scales, intersection-observer fades, per-block blend fixes, and a mobile overlay that preserves readability without losing the moody aesthetic. The result is an immersive reel-forward portfolio that loads fast, feels premium, and puts Chris’s storytelling exactly where it belongs—front and center.
